: Yoga with Indigo Luna

Surya Namaskar. The salute to the sun. The salute to ourselves. While we are changing every day, the sun keeps rising. We may feel differently inside, we may see differently, we may get ill or experience loss, but the sun continues to rise. In this cyclical practice, we take time out to focus inwards, to regather out own light and then to shine it out as the best possible version of ourselves we can be. 

Follow our favourite yogini Indigo Luna as she demonstrates Surya Namaskar for us to welcome the New Year in a fresh, balanced way.

“Surya Namaskar” Sun Salutation

1. “Pranamasana”

Stand with hands in prayer position and breathe in deeply.


2. “Hasta padasana”

Exhale deeply and bend forward at the hips, keeping the spine straight, bring the hands to the floor.


3. “Ashwa Sanchalanasana”

Breathing in, step backwards with the left leg, keeping the right bent. Breathe out.


 4. “Dandasana” and “Bhujangasana”

Breathing in, step the right leg back with the left, keeping the body in a straight line. Slide the chest forward and upward. Keep the elbows bent and push the shoulders away from the ears.


5. “Parvatasana”

Breathing in, push the hips upward and back and the chest downward, the body forming an inverted ‘V’ shape.


 6. “Ashwa Sanchalanasana”

Step forward with the left foot, keeping the right knee to the floor and look up, keeping the hands in prayer position.


7. “Hasta Padasana” and “Tadasana”

Breathing out, bring the right foot forward together with the left, and bend forward, hands to the floor. Exhale. As you exhale, straighten the body upright, and bring hands to prayer. Relax in this position and observe the sensations in your body.
