BoHome: Your own Bohemian Abode
It’s so easy to get busy with day to day life and never fully embrace the space you live in! Particularly if you rent an apartment and have to keep your walls bare of colour. We’ve put together a few tips and tricks to help boho your home so you’ll be feeling those gypsy vibes in no time!
We started with a fairly neutral, slightly modern living room and…
For indoor plants, we suggest fiddle fig leaf, devil’s ivy and ferns as they are all fairly hardy indoor plants but if you are uncertain, head to your local nursery and talk with the staff about what is right for you.
Create your own eclectic collection of Objet D’art to place around your home. It could be items that have significant meaning to you that you have collected on travels, photos, art or simply something you stumbled upon!
Beautifully draped throws, vibrant and colourful pillows with elaborate embroidery, floor cushions and more can make even the most modern space suddenly feel like a gypsy den! Don’t worry about matching things, in fact you will create more interest in a boho room by having more contrast.
Wall weavings, dream catchers and hanging planters will make those plain walls talk, which is especially good if you’re a renter. Splash a bit of colour about with embroidered chaklas as wall art and hang a toran above the window or doorways to make every day feel like a celebration.
Bring the indoors outside with embroidered cushions, vibrant throws and quirky wall hangings on outdoor furniture. Just be sure to have somewhere to store it and keep it safe from the elements when you’re not using it.
Bedding is a great place to explore contrasting yet complimentary linens, and get experimental with textures and weavings.
Incorporate as many natural elements into your home as you can, such as wood, glass, stone, ceramics, shells, feathers, and thoughtfully place them throughout your rooms.
In the day, the more natural light you can bring into the space, the better. In the night though, it’s all about moody diffused lighting. When in doubt, add a salt lamp! These are great for absorbing excess moisture in a room too.
