You began as a professional dancer and have become a yoga teacher. Recently you have begun to beautifully fuse the two. Can you tell me about this process?
Dancing helped shape me into an open, expressive woman with a deep connection to my heart and body. Dancing taught me it is okay to be raw, honest and a little bit crazy at times. After years of dance and pushing myself to my absolute limit, I decided to take time to heal. This is when I found yoga - not just as a physical practice, but a mindset. I decided to step away from dancing to dedicate an entire year to self-love. Yoga taught me to be kind, not only to those around me but most importantly to myself. Through these teachings my entire life has evolved.

It is with this mind set and love for myself that I have returned to dance. I now move with love, without judgment, without expectation. I allow my body to move in order to express not impress. I hope to infuse the yoga mindset into the world of dance.

Is it safe to say movement is your favourite medium? Why do you devote your life to this practice, and how has it changed you?
We are all a part of something much larger then ourselves. Through movement I feel this connection. I feel this truth. When I move I feel free, I feel safe.
It takes me to a world far from here, yet I am present with every breath. As I move I heal, whatever is buried deep down begins to rise. Fear, doubt, sadness or joy. It flows through my body and out my fingertips then it just dissolves away, leaving me with an empty space.
A space of clarity, a blank page so I can begin my story again. Movement is my medicine. I do not know who or what I would be without it.

Tell me what you do:
I am a Crystal sound therapist and yoga teacher. I use breath, movement, mantra and sound from crystal singing bowls to move and balance energy.

Tell me the benefits and the concepts behind Crystal Sound therapy?
Crystal sound therapy works with the Vedic Chakra system and is a modality for moving and balancing energy. Crystal singing bowls were a byproduct of the computer industry as they were used to grow silica quartz chips. Now days they are a sort after tool for use in energetic healing and meditation. The main concept behind sound therapy is entrainment or forced resonance. Each energy centre within the body vibrates at its own frequency, these energy centres can go off balance causing dis-ease in the body. Using a pure frequency such as a crystal singing bowl, your body listens to and entrains to the pure frequency thus returning to a balanced state.

What drew you to using sound as a medium? Have you always considered sound a healing method?
Like most, I have always found solace within sound, whether it be dancing to my favourite band or crying listening to love ballads in my room. Everyone uses music as a healing tool whether its a conscious choice or not. My curiosity as to why music has the power to really affect mood and emotion drew me to deeper study. My studies has not only showed me a much deeper connection to music and using sound to heal the body and spirit, but has deepened my relationship with the world and the way I interact with it.
