Tree Of Life Blog: DIY Room Diffusers

Coming into Spring, we've been excited to try a new DIY to welcome the season and what better way to bring a fresh feel to your favourite space than to create your own gorgeous diffusers.

We hopped on down to our local Vinnies to pick up a few second-hand glass bottles and rounded up some of our favourite scents.... Lavender, Rosalina and Eucalyptus.

Lavender boasts a harmonising and calming effect on the nerves, relieves tension and is effective for headaches, migraines and insomnia. Eucalyptus is best known as a relief for headcolds but adds a fresh, Australian tone to the mix. Rosalina proves the perfect middle ground between the two, as a calming, pleasant Australian native with a floral touch.

Where some recipes use alcohol in the oil blend, we decided to go all natural with a Sweet Almond Oil base. The choice was easy, it adds a comforting scent and doubles as a great moisturiser for skin and hair - win win!

What you'll need...

- A jar, vase or bottle to create your diffuser
- Bamboo skewers (we like to put four or five in each)
- A base oil (we used Almond Oil but there are alternatives)
- Your favourite essential oils

What to do...

1. First off, make sure your bottle or jar is nice and clean. Wash it out with clean water.

2. When you are ready to begin, pour in your Almond Oil using a funnel (or a steady hand).

3. To blend the scent, add 25-30 drops of your essential oil (e.g Lavender). Our oil ratios worked out at 70pc base to 30pc essential, not too overpowering!

4. Give your concoction a little swirl and see how it smells.
If you feel like you want to add more, do it! If you want to add in another scent do it. We made three blends, one with Rosalina and Lavender, one with Eucalyptus and Lavender and the last a mix of all three.

5. Cut the pointy ends off your bamboo skewers with a pair of sharp scissors and stick them in your bottle. The amount will depend on the size of the bottle but four to five sticks should do.

And, easy as that, you are done. Experiment with your favourite scents and see where it takes you.
