River Hazel and Jess Krause are artists and friends from sunny Queensland.
Jess is a photographer and stylist, while River makes botanical jewellery from her home studio on Tamborine Mountain. These two pals caught up at River’s hinterland abode to discuss the new “Free Love” collection amidst Autumn leaves and country lanes.
Jess: “Both River and myself have filled our wardrobes with Tree of Life since our school age days. I have always loved the easy, floaty bohemian fabrics and the ethical philosophy behind the brand. There’s something really special about putting on a hand blocked dress or embroidered jumper that helps support the communities where they are made. As a curvy lady I’ve always turned to Tree of Life for my boho pieces, and I was beyond excited when I found out about the Free Love collection! It’s an incredible compilation of old favourites and new designs that are soft and flattering. This range is perfect for Autumn and Winter layering, as the pieces compliment each other really well. I love that any person can walk into a Tree of Life store and feel welcomed and comfortable in knowing that they have options”.
River: “As a small business owner and artisan I recognise the time and effort that goes into creating handmade pieces, so supporting fair and ethical trade is really important to me when choosing garments and accessories. Tree of Life’s ongoing commitment to conscious creation has made this brand a long term favourite of mine. The easy to wear pieces are perfect for rainforest strolls on the mountain or creating jewellery in my studio. The rich berry hues in this collection really stood out for me, and I love that the fabric is breathable so it can be worn all year round. I’ve got a lot of travel planned this year so the Free Love collection will be coming along from the Gold Coast beaches to chilly Winter market days in Victoria”.
Jess: “I was pleasantly surprised by the mix of statement pieces and classic wardrobe basics in the Free Love range. There are some stunning prints in this collection and I’m a big fan of the earthy tones. The soft flowing, block coloured items are also super handy to pair back with feature pieces or denim, so there really is something for every occasion”.
River: “We both love bohemian dresses and floaty designs, but it can be difficult to find the right size when every body type is so unique. I was really impressed by the Free Love collection because it caters to so many different shapes, heights and figures, without resorting to just kaftans and ponchos. There is a lot of structure to these pieces while still maintaining a comfy, boho vibe. I feel like I could wear this range out to dinner or relax at home and still feel feminine and free”.
Thanks for coming along on our afternoon mountain stroll! We hope you enjoy the Free Love collection as much as we do! xx
